5 for Friday -- 5 Tips, Tidbits, and Tech Tricks for 12/22

Reader,

Happy Friday! Friends, I’m excited it’s almost Christmas! It might be soggy in Seattle where I am, but I hope the weather is not dampening your spirits wherever you are! Have a blessed holiday season.

This is my 5 for Friday: Five minutes, on a Friday, for an Enneagram Five, to share Five quick tips, tidbits, and tech tricks that are working for me, and hopefully for YOU too. Drop me a message and let me know what you think.

#1 Get in the boat!

I’m so excited for the new Boys in the Boat movie! If you were a fan of the book, you may love this movie. Here is a fan guide. So many good lessons from this story. The book has so many more storylines than they could put into the movie. One lesson is abut what can be accomplished as a team that works together.

The question for you today:

Where can a unified team in 2024 help you achieve something great?

#2 What I'm reading

Working my way through The Innovative Church, by Scott Cormode. The author uses a lot of design thinking ideas as well as adaptive leadership concepts to apply to the context of congregational ministry. Tons here for ministry leaders in churches or nonprofits. Probably even business leaders, but the book uses church examples mostly. Great models and frameworks and definitely actionable.

#3 What I'm listening to

This album, Simply Christmas by Leslie Odom, Jr. has been on the frequent playlist this week. It’s not sad, exactly, but it’s not raucous. His jazz roots shine. The arrangements for Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, My Favorite Things and Edelweiss (deluxe edition) are so good.

#4 A new vocational journey

I don’t mention a ton of personal stuff in this email, but I thought I’d mention that I’m in the midst of a change of jobs to taking on a role as pastor for a congregation. It happens to be a congregation that Joe Rantz, of Boys in the Boat, was a part of! Kind of a cool connection to explore and I’m excited to hear more stories and dive into this community in the new year. I hope to continue writing this weekly email as much as possible.

#5 Inspirational quote of the week

Here’s to brighter days ahead:

“Have yourself a merry little Christmas

Let your heart be light

Next year all our troubles, will be out of sight”

Lyrics to the song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

Light for your path today,

Jeff
